Forcefield

Never give up on something you can’t go a day without
Thinking about
Your eyes
Write poems in my heart
As if laser beams and my heart iron
Or stone and your love the hand of God
Never give up on something you can’t go a day without
Thinking about thoughts come and go
But did you know feelings remain ingrained
And your body remembers the night you let me count
Your freckles and we traced the constellations
Beyond our Milky Way
How everything we didn’t know we needed was found
In the each other’s arms and under the covers
Became some kind of forcefield
We couldn’t get away from and kept everything else at bay
How you took the palm of my hand as if handling the rarest object
And you didn’t say your name was written all over it, thankfully
I would’ve hated that
But you noticed
The callus in my middle finger and asked where’s that from
And you noticed the callus near the middle of my heart
And asked where’s that from
And I told you that I write and I told you all
I survived
And you said it’s called writer’s callus and a brave heart
Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about
As if written in the stars
Whatever verb made the universe
